SHOE DESIGN I

Program Description:
Students focus on design and construction techniques. This program provides the fundamentals of shoe design, basic vocabulary, practical application, construction, and pattern making. Students learn the shoe design creation process from interpretation of original sketch, to a made to measure finished product.

Program Overview:

  • Students will develop a systematic and critical approach to footwear construction based on industry practices.
  • Design, draft and construct patterns.
  • Fit product on foot.
  • Translate changes in footwear to changes in pattern.
  • Demonstrate problem solving in footwear construction with regard to interpretation of sketch.
  • Design footwear following specific design direction and construct product that meet project criteria.

Level: Beginners. No previous experience is required, only a strong desire to learn the exciting shoe design process.

This program is available to all graduates of the Fashion Merchandising Module “A” Program.

SHOE DESIGN ll

Program Description:
Students further develop their design techniques and vocabulary. This program provides an overview of different technical aspects of shoe construction including lasted construction and heel heights. Students will learn sketching methods for quickly developing variations on a single style.

Program Overview:

  • Students will deepen their knowledge of shoe design and construction through projects that reflect industry practices.
  • Design, draft and construct patterns using a shoe last.
  • Fit product on last and foot.
  • Translate changes in footwear to changes in pattern and sketch.
  • Demonstrate problem solving in footwear construction with regard to interpretation of sketch and shoe last marking.
  • Design footwear following specific design direction and construct product that meets project criteria.

Level: Intermediate.

This program is available to all graduates of the Fashion Merchandising Module “A” Program and the Shoe Design I Program.

SHOE DESIGN III

Program Description:
Students further develop their design techniques and vocabulary. This program will continue to develop technical skills for shoe construction offering the opportunity to explore lasted and made to measure construction. Students will be introduced to line building strategies and given the basic skills needed to design a complete line of footwear.

Program Overview:

  • Students will use their footwear design and construction skills through line building and branding exercises that reflect industry practices.
  • Design, draft and construct patterns to solve a specific problem.
  • Fit product on last and foot.
  • Translate necessary changes to pattern, sketch and design plan.
  • Demonstrate problem solving in footwear construction with regard to design needs
  • Design multiple footwear styles that follow design direction and construct product that meets project criteria.

This program is available to all graduates of the Fashion Merchandising Module “A” Program and the Shoe Design I and II Programs.
